Sky shows the shape of things to come on its 3D TV channel

Sky's consumer 3D TV channel will show just three or four shows per week, plus a Premier League football match and movies, when it launches in late 2010.

Sky told the TV industry it's looking for 'appointment to view' TV such as live events and series finales for the 3D channel, which will be free to top-tier Sky HD subscribers.

The series finale of performance documentary Pineapple Dance Studios is likely to be filmed at the 02 venue in 3D, along with a Christmas special.

Dance competition Got To Dance is also likely to see its finale filmed in 3D, as is a 3D version of Sky Arts live music strand Songbook.

Some 200 producers and TV channel execs attended a Sky 3D event at Bafta, where Sky 1, 2 and 3's director of programmes, Stuart Murphy, said: "We are looking for great stories and appointment-to-view experiences."

Murphy added that family-oriented one-off dramas such as its Terry Pratchett adaptations could be given the 3D treatment, but 3D will be reserved for special editions and series finales of ongoing drama series.

Trade magazine Broadcast reports that there will be no post-watershed 3D shows commissioned for the channel, although a family-friendly comedy in the style of The Mighty Boosh could be picked up.

Specialist factual shows and natural history are also likely to get the 3D treatment, and the 3D channels schedules will be wrapped in a showreel running from 9am to 11pm.
